Puja Kolluru has directed the Telugu remake of Mandela, for which Venkatesh Maha is the creative producer
Martin Luther King, the Telugu remake of Yogi Babu’s critically acclaimed political comedy Mandela (a digital release), is gearing up for a theatrical release on October 27. Sampoornesh Babu plays the titular role in the film, which marks the directorial debut of Puja Kolluru. Saranya Pradeep, Venkatesh Maha, and Naresh are other pivotal characters in the film, which has music by Smaran Sai.
The Telugu film is jointly produced by S Sashikanth and Chakravarthy Ramachandra under YNOT Studios and Reliance Entertainment in collaboration with Mahayana Motion Pictures. Venkatesh Maha is also the creative producer and has written the screenplay and dialogues for the project. After a good response to the premieres and the unveiling of the teaser, the makers launched the trailer today.
The trailer takes viewers through the life of an innocent villager who doesn’t even have a name. With the help of a government official, he's been christened Martin Luther King. The focus later shifts to a local election between two opportunistic village heads who make lofty promises to woo residents in the village. The closely fought election boils down to one vote — that of the lead character.
The villager makes the most of the situation, taking expensive gifts from both the leaders and keeping them on the edge. However, on the D day, the scenario takes a turn for the worse, and he tries to flee the village. He loses support from his near and dear ones and receives a handful from the henchmen. What’s in store for Martin Luther King? We’ll know more soon.
Madonne Ashwin wrote the story for the film, while Deepak Yaragera is the cinematographer. Puja Kolluru is also the editor of Martin Luther King, whose crew comprises production designer Rohan Singh and costume designer GNS Shilpa. The film’s early premieres were held in Kurnool, Vizag, Vijayawada, Warangal, and Nellore. Mandela, the film that inspired Martin Luther King, is out on Netflix.
