The regular shoot of the concept-driven drama will commence in March

It looks like Telugu filmmakers are finally gathering the courage to look beyond commerce and market diktats to cast senior actors in lead roles in their upcoming films. While Rajendra Prasad and Gauthami are pairing up for director Raj Madiraju’s next, Prakash Raj and Ramya Krishna play the lead roles in filmmaker Krishna Vamsi’s Rangamarthanda.
Rajendra Prasad (and Narasimha Raju) also headlined the friendship drama Anukoni Prayanam, aha’s critically acclaimed film Senapathi, directed by Pavan Sadineni, sometime ago as well. Another popular character actor Rao Ramesh is turning a lead actor with Maruti Nagar Subramanyam, a plot-driven film to be helmed by Happy Wedding fame filmmaker Lakshman Karya.
The Rao Ramesh-starrer was formally announced today. Yamaleela, Maa Annayya actress Indraja is paired opposite the veteran in the film. The makers of the project say it’s a unique concept-based drama that’ll be on the lines of many films featuring Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Rajkummar Rao in Hindi cinema. Rao Ramesh shared that it’s an exciting script and he can’t wait to commence shooting for it.
The regular shoot of the untitled film is set to begin in March. Other actors, crew will be confirmed soon. The director Lakshman Karya claimed it was a major victory for the team when Rao Ramesh agreed to come on board for the project. Expressing his happiness, the director said that the plot would revolve around an unemployed middle-aged man and the various conflicts in his life.
The film’s runtime is expected to be around two hours and the makers haven’t revealed if the project is being made as an OTT-film or as a theatrical feature. Rao Ramesh had an eventful 2022 with several impactful performances in films like KGF2, Pakka Commercial, Swathi Muthyam, Yashoda and Dhamaka. He’ll also be seen in Ravanasura and Anni Manchi Sakunamule in 2023.
