Chadwick Boseman was an artiste par excellence. Respected across the globe, the late star was loved by all segments of audience not only for his acting, but for the humble being he was. He popularised the role of T’Challa, the king of Wakanda, in the movie Black Panther, but before the commencement of the sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, his untimely demise shook everyone in Hollywood.
Now in a bittersweet news to fans, Marvel has announced that Chadwick Boseman will make his final on-screen appearance in the upcoming project, What If…?. However, there’s a catch to the story. Instead of essaying the role of Black Panther, aka the King of Wakanda, he will be playing a black Star Lord. In the series exploring a multiverse filled with incredible possibilities, he will still be reprising his role as T’Challa, who is the Star Lord from Guardians of the Galaxy. A one-of-a-kind show, What If…? will change the course of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and attempt to explore major events through a different perspective.

Sharing his fondest memories of working with the late Oscar-Nominee, director Bryan Andrews narrated Chadwick’s quiet battle with cancer, at the global press conference for the upcoming Disney+ series. “None of us knew what he was going through at the time,” he revealed.
He lauded the spirit of the actor, and expressed how excited the entire crew was to work with Chadwick, as he was one of the first actors to sign on for the voice cast. Bryan Andrews also revealed that due to his theatrical training, Chadwick wanted to do his part as a scene and build it up like a play, and was eager to bring this new version of the character to the audience.
He confessed that the unexpected demise of the artiste added extra pressure to give their all to the anthology series, and they had to complete the post-production without him. They wanted to honour the memory and legacy left behind by Chadwick.
Produced by Marvel Studios, the first season of What If…? is set to premiere on August 11, and consists of 10 episodes.
