Maryade Prashne, the debut feature film production of RJ Pradeepa’s Sakkath Studio, best known for the Kannada web series Loose Connection, Honeymoon, By Mistake and Hate U Romeo, hit theatres in November 2024. The film, based on a story by Pradeepa that director Nagaraj Somayaji developed for the screen, starred Rakesh Adiga, Suneel Raoh, Poorna Mysore, Prabhu Mundkur, Teju Belawadi, among others, in a tale of a class divide set in Bengaluru. The film had an average theatrical outing and made it to OTT – Amazon Prime Video – a little over 2 months later.
Another 3 months later, and Maryade Prashne is set to get a second streaming home, as the exclusive deal with Prime Video runs out. According to the latest, Maryade Prashne will also be available on SunNXT starting June 13, 2025.
Pradeepa and Nagaraj’s film pits the middle class of Chamarajpet against the affluent lot in Indirangar, with revenge at its core. Maryade Prashne is about three childhood friends Suri (Rakesh Adiga), Manja (Poorna Mysore), and Sathisha (Suneel Raoh), all of who have simple dreams of a better future, but are staring at a set of struggles.
A failed entrepreneur, Sathisha has turned to delivering food for an aggregator to settle his debts, while Manja hopes to some day own and not hire out a cab to drive and make his livelihood. Suri, meanwhile, is the right-hand man of a local politician and working his way up the ranks to get the party nominate him for the corporation election. All three of them know that they have miles to go to fulfil their dreams, but remain hopeful, what with each other’s support.
But then, tragedy befalls the friends, when Sathisha meets with a deadly accident at the hands of a bunch of inebriated rich kids, Suri sees it as an opportunity to get the former’s family some respite in the form of compensation. However, not only do the perpetrators refuse to pay up, they also decide to show up their affluence and insult Suri and Manja. Can Suri and Manja ensure that they do right by Sathisha’s family? This is at the crux of the film.
