There was a lot of buzz around RJ Pradeepa’s first movie production from his banner Sakkath Studio, known for having made engaging web content like Loose Connection, Honeymoon and By Mistake, among others. The film, Maryade Prashne, was based on a story by Pradeepa, which he developed for the big screen along with Nagaraj Somayaji, who then directed the film. They cast Rakesh Adiga, Suneel Raoh, Poorna Mysore, Teju Belawadi and Prabhu Mundkur, among others, in a tale of a social class divide, set in Bengaluru and based on Pradeepa’s experiences and hearsay to create a cinematic representation.

The film released in theatres in November last year to mixed reviews, and then made its way to OTT on Amazon Prime Video a few months later. Now, 6 months since the theatrical release, Maryade Prashne is on a second platform for a wider reach. The film began streaming on Sun NXT on June 13, 2025. The platform has been picking up such Kannada content after a run on Amazon Prime Video, like, for instance, the Daali Dhananjaya production Vidyapati or Rishab Shetty’s Laughing Buddha.

Sun Network is not the go-to platform for most Kannada filmmakers who prefer the reach of Prime Video for the OTT outing. Even then, the streamer occasionally gets exclusive deals, like, for instance, Ganesh’s Krishnam Pranaya Sakhi or Prajwal Devaraj’s Gana and Rakshasa.

Maryade Prashne follows three friends from the lower-middle class belt in Chamarajpet, each with dreams of someday striking it rich and a tragic altercation they have with some rich brats from a well-to-do neighbourhood in Bengaluru. The film, however, meandered from being a class conflict to a routine revenge story, which did not help its cause. Also, the makers chose to depict the middle class as the most righteous do-gooders, while the rich were absolutely abhorrent in their behaviour.
