Masaba Gupta opens up on how OTT makes her feel ‘validated’ as an actor

After making a name for herself in the world of fashion designing, Masaba Gupta added another feather to her cap when she made her foray into acting with the series Masaba Masaba. The Netflix series is gearing up for the release of its second season soon. The actress recently opened up about starting her acting career with OTT shows, and spoke of whether fans can see her in a Bollywood film anytime soon.

In conversation with Mid Day, Masaba spoke of how ‘comforting’ it felt after getting good reviews for her performances in Masaba Masaba and Modern Love. The actress said that she had grown up watching a ‘certain’ kind of acting in Bollywood, which she referred to as an ‘exaggerated’ form of acting. Because of this, she was not sure whether her brand of ‘subtle’ acting would find audiences. However, due to the advent of OTT, Masaba seems to have found the perfect platform to display her skills. “With OTT, a new style of acting is being appreciated. So, I feel validated”, she said.

On her plans to do a Bollywood film, Masaba said that currently she had a ‘full life’ as an entrepreneur, so she would not do a film unless she felt that it ‘absolutely fulfils’ her as an actor. Taking a dig at Bollywood, Masaba added that the industry would probably be more interested in doing films with the same set of ten actors they already cast. Until this changes, the actress said she hoped to find more work in OTT. She said that she wanted to explore more characters and dialects as an actor as well.

In addition to Masaba, the upcoming season of her show also stars Neena Gupta, Neil Bhoopalam, Ram Kapoor, Kusha Kapila, and Barkha Singh in pivotal roles.

The second season of Masaba Masaba will be available for streaming on Netflix from July 29 onwards.
