Ravi Teja’s action-drama Mass Jathara, in which he was paired with Sreeleela, turned out to be one of the biggest disasters for a star-led film, with theatres removing the film after only a week’s run or less. Luckily for the makers, the OTT streaming deal had been inked before the theatrical release and subsequent brickbats. Netflix had, reportedly, picked the rights, and even though there were rumours that the streamer had backed out of the deal following the film’s theatrical failure, that’s not the case.

Mass Jathara will drop on Netflix on November 28 in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam. The action comedy film directed by Bhanu Bogavarapu, also stars Rajendra Prasad, Naresh, Praveen, Naveen Chandra, Samuthirakani, Tarak Ponnappa, Ajay Ghosh, Murali Sharma, Ajay Rathnam, VTV Ganesh, among others. Music was by Bheems Ceciroleo and cinematography by Vidhu Ayyanna. The 160-minute long film was, reportedly, made at a budget of around Rs 90 cr, but ended its worldwide gross at Rs 19.3 cr only. Such was the film’s abysmal performance, that trackers stopped following it after the first week.

For Ravi Teja, Mass Jathara is his fourth consecutive box office failure, while for leading lady Sreeleela, it’s the latest in a long line of flops. Her last successful Telugu film came with 2023’s Bhagavanth Kesari, and industry insiders reckon that the actress continued dry spell is likely to affect her prospects in Tollywood. Her upcoming films include an untitled project with Kaartik Aryan, which marks her Bollywood debut, and Parasakti in Tamil, a period political drama directed by Sudha Kongara.
