Nearly four years after the second season of Master of None aired, fans have been uplifted again by the news of the third season. Not only did Netflix announce the release date of the third season of Aziz Ansari’s comedy series, but also dropped the trailer on April 26.

Netflix had only recently revealed that the show will be renewed for a third season. The trailer for the series, titled Master of None Presents: Moments in Love, features Naomi Acki and Lena Waithe. The latter takes the lead in the trailer as the romantic interest of Acki, who won a BAFTA Award for her performance in The End of the F***ing World.

Though the last two seasons of the series revolved around Dev, played by Ansari, the focus of season three is Waithe’s character Denise who is navigating her relationship with Alicia (Acki). Denise had previously taken centrestage in Master of None in the Thanksgiving special episode of season 2, for which Ansari and Waithe won the Emmy for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy. The new season has been scripted by the duo, with Ansari directing all the five episodes.

Ansari’s character, Dev, briefly appears in the trailer when he toasts to Waithe’s character. The reason behind this is possibly the controversy surrounding Ansari regarding the accusations of sexual misconduct against him from January 2018. He addressed these allegations in his Netflix stand-up special Right Now and has maintained a low profile since then.

Season 3 of Master of None will premiere on Netflix on May 23.
