Varun Tej's next film, Matka, is based on gambling in the late 1950s. Karuna Kumar of Palasa fame directs this film, which also has Nora Fatehi in a key role.
Varun Tej made headlines when he married actress Lavanya Tripathi in a big, fat wedding in Italy. Now, he is busy with two films, Operation Valentine and Matka. As Varun Tej celebrates his birthday today, the makers of Matka revealed the first teaser which looks quite interesting.
The promo does not dwell much on the film's plot but one gets the idea that Matka is based on the game of gambling. Varun Tej is showcased as the man who is behind the gambling addas and runs an empire. The young actor is all swag in the promo, as he is shown in a suited avatar smoking a cigar with a lot of panache.
Varun Tej is known to choose different subjects in his career and he surprised everyone when he chose director Karuna Kaumar, who is known to make serious films like Palasa, to direct a commercial action drama titled Matrka.
The teaser starts with scenes of revolutions and popular actors like Naveen Chandra and Ravi Shankar are seen in key roles in this film. What catches your attention is the prolific cinematography by A Kishor Kumar, which interestingly showcases the gambling stup.
GV Prakash composes music for the film and his BGM for the teaser raises curiosity. Few know that Hindi actress Nora Fatehi is also making her acting debut with Matka. The retro look in the promo looks cool and Varun Tej is also dressed as a mafia don in the promo. The news is that Varun Tej's character will have negative shades.
Meeenakshi Chaudhary is cast as the female lead in this film, which has been produced on a massive scale by Dr. Vijender Reddy Teegala and Rajani Talluri under Vyra Entertainments in association with SRT Entertainment. The same banner produced the hit Nani film Hi Nanna.
There is also that Matka's story, which takes place between 1958 and 1982, is based on a real incident that shook the entire nation and the story is set against the backdrop of Vizag. The story spans 24 years.
For now, the teaser looks interesting and we need to see what Varun Tej has up his sleeve with this pan-India release. Here's wishing Varun Tej a very happy birthday and a wonderful year ahead.
