A flurry of well-made Telangana-centric rustic tales has come our way since the formation of the new state in 2014. From Fidaa to Mallesham to Balagam to Pelli Choopulu, Arjun Reddy, Mem Famous, Mail and Intinti Ramayanam, to name a few, the films captured the soul of the State, exploring its culture, traditions and challenges faced by its residents. Another quality rural drama joined this list recently.
Matti Katha is a poignant rustic tale mostly starring newcomers and is also written and directed by a debutant Pavan Kadiyala. Ajay Ved, Maya, Kanakavva, Dayanand Reddy and Balagam fame Sudhakar Reddy played pivotal roles in the drama produced by Appi Reddy under Movies (the banner that produced Slum Dog Husband and Mr Pregnant earlier this year).

The film, which won over 9 awards at recognised international and national film festivals, had a limited theatrical release in the Telugu states on September 22 and earned huge praise from critics and audiences alike. The rural ambience, the authentic treatment and the performances by the young team were appreciated. Three weeks after its theatrical release, the film is gearing up for its OTT premiere.
The rural drama will be arriving on OTT on October 13, next Friday. Noted streaming platform aha has acquired the post-theatrical streaming rights of the critically acclaimed film for a decent price. “Experience the Beauty of the Land through #Mattikatha Coming exclusively to @ahavideoIN on October 13th,” the production house tweeted on Saturday.
The story revolves around how a poor village family reacts to an encroachment of their land. Balveer Singh, Akshay, Raju Aluri, Bathurst Tena, Ruchitha, Seetha Mahalaxmi Mallesham, Nanda Gopal are also part of the cast. Sainath cranked the camera for the film which was edited by Uday Khumbam and Ram Krishna. Smaran Sai composed the music for the same and Hema Sunder was the creative head.
