Netflix is getting ready to release Maya and the Three, the animated series around fall of this year. Written and directed by Jorge R. Gutiérrez, the fantasy series features some of the big names in Hollywood as voice-over artists.
The voice cast for Maya and the Three include Zoe Saldana as Maya, Gabriel Iglesias as Picchu, Allen Maldonado as Rico, Stephanie Beatriz as Chimi, Diego Luna as Zatz, Alfred Molina as the God of War, Danny Trejo as the God of Earthquakes and Rita Moreno as Ah Puch.
Maya and the Three will follow Princess Maya, voiced by Saldana, a rebellious warrior princess, whose life turns upside down when her life is asked as a forfeit for the God of war. The series portrays the courageous princess as she sets out to fulfil a prophecy which foretells the coming together of three great warriors to fight the Gods of the underworld and save humanity, now under threat.
The streaming giant released a teaser for Maya and the Three yesterday, which gave a glimpse into the world that the show will soon create. In what looks like a visual treat, the series tries to take the audience to a mythical world of Gods and legends. The animations seem to catch the eye immediately and with a story that brings together Aztec, Maya and Inca mythology, Maya and the Three hints at a series that will make a lot of fans along the way.
The series, which will have a runtime of around four-and-a-half hours, will unfold as nine 30-minute episodes.
