What is special about Mean Girls?

This isn't just another teen movie. It's a film adaptation of the popular musical Mean Girls, which was inspired by the 2004 movie directed by Mark Waters and starring Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams. Now, twenty years later, with a musical twist, the spirit of the original teen film is still present, with some modern updates. In this 2024 version, the mean girls are even more brutal and use smartphones to further their schemes, but the story follows the same basic plot as the original. Sixteen-year-old Cady, played by Angourie Rice, tries to navigate the challenges of high school after moving back to the U.S. She finds comfort and advice from her artistic friend Janis, played by Auliʻi Cravalho, and gay Damian, portrayed by Jaquel Spivey.
