Meesha star Kathir on Dhadak 2: 'I don't know if I am the right person to speak because...' | Exclusive

The action thriller, Meesha, which is scheduled to hit theatres this week, will mark Kathir's Malayalam film debut. In the meantime, Dhadak 2, a Hindi adaptation of one of his films, Pariyerum Perumal, will be released on August 1. The actor discussed the significance of replicating a critically acclaimed movie like Pariyerum Perumal in an interview with OTTplay.

'Relevance of remakes in any language'

Since he recently worked on the remake of the Malayalam film Ishq, Kathir said he is unsure if he is the best person to discuss the value of movie remakes. "I think every movie, even remakes, has a life of its own. On Dhadak 2, I'm seeing a lot of trolls on social media. Their lives are different, and they may have completely distinct ideas about oppression. I think it would be fantastic if they could do something that is very similar to their reality," he added. 

The young celebrity went on to say that, in the end, it all comes down to how an actor interprets their role and delivers it, not trying to replicate the original. Pariyerum Perumal, which is directed by Mari Selvaraj, can be watched on Amazon Prime Video.

'Working on the Tamil remake of Ishq'

He continued by saying that although the story of the Tamil version of Ishq is the same, he approached his role differently. "I think that having a girl with him at any time in an unsafe scenario would make one feel weak, anxious, and vulnerable more than being a protagonist with impetuous actions. I have infused my own style into the character in this way," he continued. He underlined that while moral policing problems are prevalent, the topic is relevant; the only thing that varies depending on the language and culture is the characters. 

Aasai is the name of the Tamil version of Ishq. Amazon Prime Video is streaming Ishq, which was directed by Anuraj Manohar, who is well-known for helming Tovino Thomas' latest thriller, Narivetta.
