Now making its way to OTT, Mere Husband Ki Biwi follows a run in theatres that aroused interest with its unusual title but ultimately fell short of expectations. The romantic comedy will grace JioHotstar with its launch on April 18, 2025, starring Arjun Kapoor, Bhumi Pednekar, and Rakul Preet Singh.
Title | Mere Husband Ki Biwi |
OTT Platform | JioHotstar |
OTT Release Date | April 18, 2025 |
Main Cast | Arjun Kapoor, Bhumi Pednekar, Rakul Preet Singh |
Director & Writer | Mudassar Aziz |
The film was written and directed by Mudassar Aziz (known for Happy Bhag Jayegi) and produced by Vashu Bhagnani, Jackky Bhagnani, and Deepshikha Deshmukh under Pooja Entertainment. It was released in theatres on February 21, 2025. The film's OTT launch has become a topic of conversation among rom-com lovers, despite its underwhelming critical and commercial reception. This popularity is due to the film's light-hearted tone, funny premise, and star power.
Set in Delhi, Mere Husband Ki Biwi recounts the escapades of Ankur, a professional played by Arjun Kapoor, as he becomes caught up in the whirlwind romance that involves his ex-wife and current girlfriend. In the film, Ankur gets a divorce from his wife, Prabhleen Kaur (Bhumi Pednekar), because they can't get past their disagreements. Three years later, when Ankur unexpectedly proposes to Antara Khanna (Rakul Preet Singh), the woman he harboured a romantic crush on in college, Prabhleen reappears.
Due to retrograde amnesia, Prabhleen is unable to remember anything from the past five years, including her divorce, after a car accident. She returns to Ankur's life, insisting she is still married to him, leading to a whirlwind of bewilderment, animosity, and emotional turmoil. Ankur's attempts to reconcile his relationships with his two partners—one from his past and one from his present—lead to a series of misunderstandings, emotional confrontations, and comical drama.
Film critics felt the script relied too heavily on clichés and failed to fully capitalise on the intriguing subject, despite the film's potential for crazy fun. Its 38-day theatrical run yielded a mere ₹10.35 crore.
On April 18, Mere Husband Ki Biwi will be available on OTT, allowing viewers to enjoy the show from the convenience of their homes. This film has everything the weekend binge-watchers might want: comedy, drama, and plenty of romantic confusion—regardless of whether it succeeds in the digital realm or not.
