Fans have been eagerly anticipating Sriram Raghavan's upcoming movie ever since it was announced. It was all because of the lead actors of the film. Katrina Kaif will collaborate with Vijay Sethupathi for the first time. The audience was hopeful that the movie will open in theatres on Christmas, as promised in the title. But for now, all they have to deal with is the poster. Today saw the release of the movie's first poster, and it does look intriguing.

Vijay Sethupathi and Katrina Kaif shared the poster on their respective Instagram accounts. While Sethupathi just captioned the photo "Coming soon.", Katrina Kaif wrote: “We wanted to release the film this Christmas...but there is a TWIST :) See you in cinemas soon! #MerryChristmas.”

Earlier, a source told Bollywood Hungama that it had been reported in the media that the makers of Merry Christmas had changed the film's release date because they didn't want it to conflict with Ganapath, starring Tiger Shroff, and Cirkus, directed by Rohit Shetty and starring Ranveer Singh. These reasons would have stood if the movie had been finished quickly. Sadly, things went awry once Katrina Kaif's Covid-19 test result was positive in June. There was a very significant schedule set up that would last for around 30 days and would not only include Katrina Kaif and co-star Vijay Sethupathi but also other actors. It took some time for the producers to schedule and obtain everyone's dates after Katrina tested positive.

The source continued, “The shoot for this schedule finally began in August last week and was completed around the last week of September. Sriram Raghavan then commenced the post-production and he requires at least four months for this process. He won’t compromise on this aspect and he won’t speed up things just because there’s a deadline to be met. The producers also respected that as they are confident about the film and don’t want to compromise on the quality. As a result, they decided to let go of the Christmas date despite their film revolving around the festival.”

Meanwhile, Katrina Kaif most recently appeared in Phone Bhoot alongside Ishaan Khattar and Siddhant Chaturvedi. She will soon be seen with Salman Khan in Tiger 3. Future projects for Vikram star Sethupathi include Vetrimaaran's Viduthalai, Jawan, starring Shah Rukh Khan, and Farzi, a Prime Video series starring Shahid Kapoor.
