Director-actor MG Srinivas is currently in Hyderabad, shooting for his next, a Kannada-Telugu bilingual thriller, in which he is the protagonist for one version. Srini, as he’s popularly known as, has been able to breathe easy and take off on an acting assignment, even though he’s got an upcoming release, Old Monk, because he recently sold all rights to a leading distribution house, Abhijit Enterprises.
While Old Monk will hit theatres in February, Srini will spend the next 20-odd days in Hyderabad, where he has been shooting for two weeks already. The bilingual, directed by Prashanth Sagar Atluri, an associate of veteran filmmaker Vijayendra Prasad (SS Rajamouli’s father), is a new-age experimental thriller, the script of which excited Srini. “When the team sent across the script, I was amazed at the clarity Prashanth has as far as his plans for the execution of this story go. The story transpires at a radio station, for which the team has erected a set. I play a radio jockey, which came easy to me, as I was an RJ for several years. Knowing the job meant that I could do minute on-the-spot improvisations,” says Srini, who is playing the lead only in the Kannada version, while the Telugu film will feature another actor. “The rest of the supporting cast also includes artistes from Tollywood, and they will be a part of both versions of the film,” adds the actor.
The film, which will get a title reveal shortly on the air waves, does not have a heroine, and is a fast-paced thriller meant for OTT, says Srini. Prashanth, who has written the script, is also the writer of the internationally-acclaimed film Madha, which won multiple awards at film festivals across the globe. His directorial debut is being produced by Raghuveer Goriparthi and Srujan Yarabolu.
