Before Basil Joseph starts work on the Minnal Murali sequel, the director-actor will first work on another huge project that will have Fahadh Faasil and Asif Ali in the lead. The movie, which is set to go on floors next year, will be scripted by Maheshinte Prathikaaram and Joji’s writer Syam Pushkaran.

Fahadh and Asif had previously starred in Red Wine and Indian Rupee, and also acted in Mahesh Narayanan’s Take Off, though they didn’t share screen space. The upcoming movie will also be produced by Bhavana Studios, which has Fahadh, Syam and director Dileesh Pothan as its producers.

The movie will mark Basil’s fourth directorial after Kunjiramayanam, Godha and Minnal Murali. Basil had first collaborated with Syam Pushkaran for Aashiq Abu’s Mayaanadhi, in which he had played a cameo. He later worked with Fahadh and Bhavana Studios in Joji, in which he essayed the role of priest. Their latest collaboration Palthu Janwar, which is directed by debutant Sangeeth P Rajan and scripted by Syam, has the actor playing the lead role.

Palthu Janwar, which also has Indrans, Johnny Antony and Dileesh in pivotal roles, is set to hit theatres on September 2. The movie will clash with Kunchacko Boban and Arvind Swami’s action-thriller Ottu, which will also release the same day.

Meanwhile, we hear that discussions for the sequel of Minnal Murali, which will have Tovino Thomas reprising his role as the ‘desi’ superhero, have started. While everything is still at a preliminary stage with the actor busy with several big commitments for the next year and Basil too set to begin work on the Fahadh-starrer, the producers are looking at a big theatrical release for the sequel, as opposed to the direct-to-OTT release on Netflix that the first film had. The makers are planning to release the movie in all countries where the movie had a good viewership on the OTT platform.
