Kollywood actor Guru Somasundaram has made quite an impact with his debut Mollywood feature – Minnal Murali. His performance as the supervillain in the Tovino Thomas-starrer that dropped on Netflix on December 24 has also won him praise from Mohanlal, who reportedly offered the actor a role in his directorial debut Barroz: The Guardian of D’Gama’s Treasure.

Guru, in a recent interview, had mentioned that Mohanlal had called to laud him for his role as Shibu, who acquires superpowers after being struck by lightning much like its hero Jaison in Minnal Murali. The superstar also said that they will work together soon, said the Tamil actor, who added Mohanlal had contacted him a week before the movie's release.

Mohanlal resumed shooting for Barroz on December 26. The actor scrapped portions of the movie that were shot earlier this year and has recast a few roles in the 3D children’s fantasy. The film, which had completed about a week’s shoot in April, also had portions with Prithviraj Sukumaran.

Reports now suggest that Prithviraj’s portions have been scrapped as the actor won’t be able to allot dates to Barroz due to his already packed schedule that including completing Shaji Kailas’ Kaduva, resuming Aadujeevitham and also starting work on his Hindi webseries based on Rajan Pillai that he will also be directing.

Barroz, meanwhile, is touted to be made on a budget exceeding that of Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham – making it the most expensive Malayalam film yet. While there has been no official confirmation on Guru’s casting in the movie, casting him would only elevate the appeal of the film, considering the fans he has won over with his moving portrayal as Shibu in Minnal Murali.

Meanwhile, Guru is also part of Abhilash Kumar’s drama-thriller Chattambi, which has Sreenath Bhasi, Chemban Vinod Jose, Mythili, Grace Antony and Binu Pappu as part of the cast. The movie is set to hit theatres in April 2022.
