Whether he is doing action sequences in a uniform, or being a street fighter or even romancing onscreen with his leading lady, Bollywood actor Sidharth Malhotra has explored the genres of action and romance quite well. Proof of this is that the audience loved him watching in films like Student of the Year, Hasee Toh Phasee, Ek Villain, Ittefaq and Shershaah.
The actor is now gearing up for the release of his film Mission Majnu, in which he has been paired with Rashmika Mandanna. When asked which genre he prefers between action and romance, Sidharth said, "Instead of choosing between action and romance, I would say action along with romance. There is a lot of fun in doing action when you are doing it for love. Now, that love could be for anything - love for your nation or love for an individual. There is nothing worth fighting for more in life than love. There has to have a strong emotion behind any action."
Asked about if there is any mission that he would like to have, like Majnu in the film, the actor said, "I think pehle hum desh ke liye Majnu hai. We have a strong emotion, passion and pride for our nation. That is why this film is dedicated to all those people who riske their lives every day so that we can enjoy the freedom that we are enjoying at this very moment. It is only possible because of the country we live in and our democracy."
Taking the reference of his family as well as his earlier film, Sidharth added, "My grandfather served as an army officer in the Indian Army. I also played a brave soldier, Captain Vikram Batra, in Shershaah, and tried to show how our army is doing so much for our country. I think that's the kind of love we should have as Indians for our country. In Mission Manju also you will see that, along with the love Majnu has for his wife."
Mission Majnu is based on true events and revolves around a RAW agent and the conflict between India and Pakistan in the 1970s.
The film is written by Parveez Shaikh, Aseem Arrora and Sumit Batheja, directed by Shantanu Bagchi and produced by Ronnie Screwvala, Amar Butala and Garima Mehta. It also stars Parmeet Sethi, Zakir Hussain, Kumud Mishra, Sharib Hashmi, Arjan Bajwa and Rajit Kapur. It is releasing on Netflix on January 20.
