Mithun Chakraborty had a glorious career path. He debuted in 1976 in Mrinal Sen’s Mrigayaa with Mamata Shankar and bagged the National Award in the Best Actor category. That was just the beginning. The actor saw many ups and downs in his career and delivered entertainment consistently. This year, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan.

Mithun is happy about getting the award and said, “I am proud and joyful getting the award. I want to thank you all. I never wanted anything from anyone. I feel the joy of getting something without asking for it.” Mithun recently came back to India after a long foreign trip. A close source said that he would come to Kolkata at the beginning of February. He is coming to shoot for Raj Chakraborty’s next film.

The Padma awardees’ names were published by the government on Thursday. Usha Utthup was also awarded the Padma Bhushan. Venkaiya Naidu and the South Indian actress Chiranjeevi were honored with the Padma Vibhushan. Eight Bengalis got the Padma Shri, including the tribal environment activist from Purulia Dukhu Maji and Nepalchandra Sutradhar, the mask artist of Chou Dance. Kolkata's clay artist Sanatan Rudra Pal and Birbhum's Bhadu artist Ratan Kahar are also getting the honour. Eklabya Sharma and Narayan Chakraborty are being awarded in the category of science and technology. Takdira Begum and Geeta Roy Barman are also being awarded the Padma Shri.

Mithun sent a video message on Friday. He said, “This is a new feeling. I dedicate the honor to all my fans and well-wishers. I also dedicate this to those who showered me with unconditional love. Many thanks for giving me such love and honor.”
