Rabindranath Tagore’s literary work is an inseparable part of Bengali’s popular culture. One such short story is Kabuliwala. The friendship between the Kabuliwala Rahmat, hailing from Afghanistan, and the Bengali kid Mini, touched the hearts of millions of people in Bengal as well as outside Bengal. The story has been adapted on the big screen several times. Many noted actors played Rahmat Khan.

Now, a new film is coming based on the story. Mithun Chakraborty plays Rahmat in the film directed by Suman Ghosh and produced by SVF. Suman previously directed Mithun in his 2011 film Nobel Chor. They are pairing up after 11 years. SVF has been keen to work with Mithun for a long time.

The story has been contemporised. The shooting will take place in Kolkata, Ladakh, and Afghanistan. The makers will take preparations based on the political situation in Afghanistan in today's times.

Kabuliwala was made in films both in Bengali and Hindi previously. Chabi Biswas played Kabuliwala in the 1957 film directed by Tapan Sinha. In Hindi, Balraj Sahni played the role in 1961, directed by Bimal Roy. The film was made in Bangladesh also, in 2006 and was directed by Kaji Hayat. Manna, Prarthana Fardin Dighi, Subrata Barua, and Doel acted in that film.
