Mollywood fans were in for a big surprise on Thursday morning, when Drishyam producer Antony Perumbavoor shared a post announcing the collaboration of Mohanlal and Jeethu Joseph for an upcoming movie. Fans were quick to ask if the project was indeed the much-speculated Drishyam 3.

OTTplay got in touch with director Jeethu Joseph to know more about the upcoming project and if it’s the three-quel of the hugely-anticipated concluding chapter of the Drishyam franchise, which has spawned remakes across the country and even in Mandarin, Korean and Sinhalese.

Jeethu, who had teamed up with Mohanlal in 12th Man and the yet-to-be-released action-thriller Ram, tells us, “No, this is not Drishyam 3. I want to make that clear. This is a totally different project.” The filmmaker had hinted that he is also working on another thriller with Mohanlal a few years ago.

Ask him about the genre of the movie, and the director tells us, “It’s too soon to reveal all those details. Right, we are working on correcting the script. We are yet to go for the recce and finalise other cast members. That’s also the reason we haven’t announced the movie’s title. All this will be revealed in the coming weeks.”

The film, according to its producer, is set to go on floors in August, after Mohanlal completes the schedule of his Malayalam-Telugu bilingual Vrushabha, which also has Shanaya Kapoor as part of the cast and is helmed by Kannada filmmaker Nanda Kishore.

Meanwhile, Mohanlal and Jeethu’s Ram, which had begun its shoot before the pandemic, is yet to complete the shoot. The movie, which will be released as a duology, had been shot in the UK as well as Tunisia. Incidentally, the duo had decided to collaborate on Drishyam 2 and 12th Man as stop-gap projects before the shoot of Ram was possible during the pandemic. The upcoming project also seems to follow that trend.

With Prithviraj Sukumaran injured and recovering from a ligament surgery, this also seemed to have freed up Mohanlal’s dates – as the actor was initially set to begin the shoot of L2: Empuraan in August. The film was also set to be co-produced by Antony Perumbavoor.
