Monster, superstar Mohanlal and director Vysakh’s second collaboration after the blockbuster Pulimurugan, is all set to release on streaming service. While the movie, unlike their previous venture, didn’t quite create waves in the box office after its theatrical release last month, the makers are hoping it will be talked about when it releases on a leading OTT platform in November.

Mohanlal essays the role of an entrepreneur named Lucky Singh in the film, which is scripted by Udaykrishna and produced by Aashirvad Cinemas. The story revolves around his character visiting Kochi for a day and being chauffeured around by Honey Rose’s character. How Lucky Singh enters her family’s life, leading to a series of incidents that eventually end up with her being the suspect of a crime she didn’t commit, forms the plot of the film that also has Lakshmi Manchu, Sudev Nair, Jagapathi Babu, Siddique and Lena in pivotal roles.

While the makers had stated that the film deals with content that was rarely tackled in Malayalam cinema, the way the LGBTQ community was portrayed in the film drew flak from audience and critics alike. The action scenes in the movie, especially towards its climax, however, drew praise.

The film was initially meant to be a direct-to-OTT release but the makers couldn’t fetch the right deal for the streaming rights of the movie, prompting them to release Monster in theatres first. The film’s OTT rights were bagged by Disney+ Hotstar, which is expected to stream the film from November 25.

Hotstar’s latest release was Mammootty’s Rorschach, which was released in multiple languages. The movie, helmed by Nissam Basheer, also had a great run in theatres as opposed to Mohanlal’s Monster. Meanwhile, the next big Malayalam release on Disney+ Hotstar is expected to be Basil Joseph and Darshana Rajendran’s Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey that could begin streaming in December.
