Rumours are rife that Mohanlal and Jallikattu filmmaker Lijo Jose Pellissery are all set to join hands soon after the superstar completes shooting for Drishyam director Jeethu Joseph’s Ram. Fans have already welcomed this with open arms, considering that the superstar had faced flak from certain sections for not being available to work with new-gen filmmakers in recent years.
Now, another rumour about the upcoming movie is that it will be a mainstream film that belongs to the gangster genre. Reports suggest that Mohanlal will be playing a don based in Mangalore in the film, which is expected to go on floors in November. There is yet to be an official confirmation regarding this.
Mohanlal fans are already thrilled with the rumour, as Lijo earlier this year had worked with Mammootty in Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam. Incidentally, Mammootty and Lijo were also set to initially team up for a dark gangster drama named Antichrist years ago, but the film was shelved despite pre-production work and set design being underway.
The Lijo Jose Pellissery-Mohanlal movie will reportedly be produced by Shibu Babu John’s new production company, which had earlier this month announced a film with the superstar that was to be helmed by Athiran director Vivek. If the Lijo project goes on floors first, Vivek’s project will mostly be pushed to the first quarter of 2023, before Mohanlal begins work on the much-awaited sequel of Lucifer, Empuraan.
Mohanlal is currently shooting for Jeethu’s Ram, which will wind up its London schedule next month. The team is expected to fly back to Kerala and then leave for Morocco and Tunisia after a gap of a week.
Lijo, meanwhile, is also gearing up for the release of Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam, which is produced by Mammootty. The film is expected to have run in the festive circuit first. The film was shot entirely in Palani, Tamil Nadu, and has the megastar essaying the role of a thief.
