The makers of Mohanlal’s Monster have kept the film’s hype minimal for a reason – to ensure that its theme is intact and surprises the audience when it releases in theatres on October 21. Now, the film’s hero Mohanlal, who plays its lead character Lucky Singh, talked about what the movie is about and why it’s special to him.

In a video posted on his social media page, Mohanlal, who has teamed up with Vysakh again after their superhit Pulimurugan, said, “Monster has a lot of surprise elements. The theme is what stands out in Monster – its story and screenplay. It’s probably the first time in Malayalam that its theme is presented bravely. The film’s screenplay is its hero and also its villain. As an actor, you rarely get opportunities to be part of such films and I am happy that I could act in it.”

The film, which was shot after the second lockdown in Kerala over a period of 55 days, is touted to be a thriller. Apart from Mohanlal, it also has Lakshmi Manchu, Honey Rose, Sudev Nair, Lena, Siddique and Ganesh Kumar. This is also Mohanlal’s second theatrical release this year after Aaraattu, which was also scripted by Udaykrishna.

In an earlier interview with us, the scriptwriter said that Monster is “an experimental thriller that is different from his previous scripts”. “I have kept aside the elements that are often seen in my movies for Monster,” he said. Udaykrishna also revealed that for Monster, he has introduced several twists that the audience wouldn’t see coming.

The film was initially planned to be an OTT release. However, after its post-production, the makers felt the movie had potential to bring audiences back to the theatres. Monster will clash with Nivin Pauly’s socio-political drama Padavettu, which is also releasing on October 21. The film will also have competition from the Malayalam version of Rishab Shetty’s Kantara as well as Karthi’s Sardar.
