Mohanlal-starrer Thudarum continues to win accolades after Tharun Moorthy’s film made its much-awaited OTT premiere on JioHotstar on May 30, 2025. Fans are celebrating the Lucifer star’s stellar performance in the movie, which follows Benz Shanmugham as he sets out to seek revenge after his son Pavi (Thomas Mathew) is killed by George sir. Even when accolades are coming its way, eagle-eyed netizens are also posing some doubts regarding the Malayalam thriller. One of the biggest questions is how Pavi’s wallet turned up in Benz’s car, when the youth was almost stripped naked. In a recent chat with OTTplay, Thudarum director Tharun Moorthy has addressed the doubts, stating that the film has all the answers.
In Thudarum, cab driver Benz is forced to sit quietly when CI George sir and two other police officers take a dead body, hidden in a sack in his car trunk, and bury him in the woods. Only the next day, does Benz find the wallet and realise that the victim was indeed his son, Pavi. However, this has become a point of contention online as many people pointed out that when George Sir brutally thrashed Pavi for loving his daughter, the youth was almost stripped naked, and so how did the wallet turn up in the trunk?
When OTTplay quizzed Tharun Moorthy about this, the director dismissed the claims of bloopers by saying that it is clearly explained in the movie.
“It is clearly shown in the movie. In the news reporting, it is clearly stated that the victim's uniform was found in the sack. Viewers, who were stuck emotionally, would have probably overlooked it,” explained Tharun, who had previously made the National Award-winning Saudi Vellakka and Operation Java.
“We have filled the portions that viewers are likely to have doubts. Rather than a filmmaker explain it, it is better that the audience watch it again. I strive to avoid spoon-feeding as much as possible because I am confident that even without it, the plot development and viewing experience won’t be affected,” he added.
Tharun is also delighted that the movie has sparked such discussions. He said, “I also view such observations with happiness as it shows how much the viewers are invested in the movie.”
