Mohanlal was expected to kickstart 2025 at the Kerala box office with Thudarum, which reunited him with Shobana after a hiatus. But the Tharun Moorthy directorial got postponed, paving the way for Empuraan, which became Mohanlal’s first release of the year. Now with Empuraan raking in impressive numbers at the box office, despite the controversies, all eyes are on the Thudarum release. In an exciting update, one of the crew members of Thudarum has confirmed that the film is likely to release in April, which means that Mohanlal will have two back-to-back releases within a month’s time.
Mohanlal joining forces with Operation Java director Tharun Moorthy for Thudarum was a piece of news that excited the fans of both the Malayalam superstar and the new-age filmmaker. Though reports initially said that Thudarum would hit theatres on March 30, that did not happen. Now, Thudarum cinematographer Shaji Kumar has said that the makers are eyeing an April release.
In an interview with a media channel, Shaji said that the film is likely to release in April, following Empuraan in theatres. Several online portals are also claiming that Thudarum is most likely to release on April 25. Empuraan made its big worldwide release on March 27, and if Thudarum locks April 25 release, Mohanlal would be getting two back-to-back releases within a month.
Expectations are high for Thudarum, especially after the trailer was released, which hinted that a Drishyam-style film is on the cards.
Mohanlal-led Empuraan, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, stirred up quite a big controversy after it invited the ire of right-wing supporters. After the huge backlash, the makers resorted to making 24 ‘voluntary cuts’, which included the removal of several violent scenes and some conversations were muted. The name of actor-politician Suresh Gopi was also removed from the Thanks card.
Empuraan, the sequel to the 2019 blockbuster film Lucifer, was the most anticipated Malayalam film of the year. Meanwhile, you can watch Lucifer on SonyLiv and OTTplay Premium.
