Mohanlal is going the whole nine yards for his directorial debut, Barroz: The Guardian of D’Gama’s Treasure. The superstar, who has allotted the entire first half of the year to complete the shoot of the big budget 3D children’s fantasy film, is set to wrap up its Kerala portions this month.

While the movie was first announced a few years ago, it finally went on floors last April but the team had to halt the shoot a week into the production due to the surging COVID-19 cases in Kerala. Mohanlal then decided to scrap the portions, which also included scenes with Prithviraj Sukumaran, they had shot in April and begin anew from this year.

The superstar along with its stellar crew including cinematographer Santosh Sivan have been busy with the film’s shoot in Kochi the past three months and now a source close to the production house of Barroz tells OTTplay that they will wind up the Kerala schedule in a few days.

“Currently, the Goa schedule is planned for next month and Lal sir will head to Portugal to shoot the final sequences of the movie after that,” the source says. The actor also has another commitment – with him hosting Bigg Boss Malayalam Season 4, which is expected to go on till June. Currently, Mohanlal travels to Mumbai to film his portions of the show during the weekends.

“We are yet to take a call on that. By all means, he will head to Portugal only after wrapping up the show. Also, we are yet to finalise the foreign actors who will be part of the Portugal and Goa schedule. That will also take some time,” says the source.

Barroz, which is scripted by My Dear Kuttichathan director Jijo Punnose, also has Guru Somasundaram as part of the film’s cast. The movie revolves around a girl and Mohanlal’s titular character Barroz, who has been guarding a treasure for the past 300 years to pass it on to the rightful heir of Vasco Da Gama.
