Mohanlal to star in Priyadarshan's 100th film in 'record' collaboration, here’s when shoot will begin

It is official! The legends of Malayalam cinema are back. Superstar Mohanlal is reuniting with Priyadarshan for the veteran director's 100th film. Easily one of the most successful collaborations in Malayalam cinema, the actor-director duo also announced that the movie will start shooting in 2026 itself.
When is Mohanlal-Priyadarshan movie happening
Mohanlal has announced that he would star in Priyadarshan’s 100th film. The superstar along with the veteran director made the announcement via a video on social media on March 21 night. Notably, Priyadarshan marked his debut with the movie Poochakkoru Mookkuthi which starred Mohanlal and now four decades and numerous films later, they have reunited for the director’s 100th film.
“My dearest Priyan is stepping into his 100th film, and I find myself without words for what that truly means to me,” Mohanlal penned on Instagram.
Not just his 100th film, Priyadarshan expressed his happiness with reuniting with his hero of his first film, terming it a ‘record’ that is not going to be broken. Though their still popular movies mostly had rib-tickling comedy, Priyadarshan had recently said that his 100th film will not be a comedy but will be more of a musical.
Producer Antony Perumbavoor has also come on board for the movie, along with Binu George Alexander as the co-producer. More details of the cast and crew were not immediately known.
Mohanlal is awaiting the release of Drishyam 3 on April 2, while Priyadarshan has his Hindi directorials, including Hera Pheri 3, Bhooth Bangla and Haiwaan. But the duo have confirmed that they will start shooting the film in 2026,
Why Mohanlal-Priyadarshan movie is much-awaited
Mohanlal and Priyadarshan, also real-life friends, have delivered several hit and memorable movies over the years. Hailing from Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram, both of them started their career in the 80s. Their association first began with Priyadarshan’s first movie Poochakkoru Mookkuthi, a slapstick comedy in 1984, and the collaboration only grew with movies such as Mazha Peyyunnu Maddalam Kottunnu, Thalavattam, Chithram and more. The duo’s popular 90s movies include Kilukkam, Thenmavin Kombath, and Midhun.
Priyadarshan moved on to Hindi cinema during the 2000s and did fewer films in Malayalam. They last collaborated on Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham, which was released in 2021.
Fans are excited to see the announcement and are hoping that another memorable Mohanlal movie is on the cards.
