The segment will reportedly be based on MT Vasudevan Nair's short story titled Olavum Theeravum
In his career spanning almost four decades, director Priyadarshan was yet to helm a script by legendary Malayalam writer MT Vasudevan Nair. However, this year, he will be directing not one but two scripts based on the writer’s short stories for an upcoming Netflix anthology.
The director, who had earlier confirmed to us that he was in discussions with MT Vasudevan Nair for one short story, is now rumoured to be directing another segment which will have Mohanlal in the lead.
Priyadarshan is currently shooting for the first featurette, which is based on MT’s Shilalikhithangal. The segment has Biju Menon in the lead along with Shanthi Krishna. The shoot is currently progressing in Pattambi.
Meanwhile, according to a report in Can Channels, Priyadarshan will also be directing another featurette based on MT Vasudevan Nair’s Olavum Theeravum that was published in 1957. Mohanlal will be playing the lead character of a timber trader named Baputty in the segment.
Olavum Theeravum was adapted into a film in 1970 by PN Menon. Madhu had played Bapputty in the movie that also starred Ushanandhini and Jose Prakash. The new segment has reportedly been planned as a tribute to the makers of the 1970 movie.
Apart from Priyadarshan’s two segments, the movie also has featurettes directed by Santosh Sivan and Jayaraj. Santosh had wrapped up the shoot of his short film, which has Siddique in the lead. Jayaraj’s segment, which is based on Swargam Thurakunna Samayam, has Indrans, Renji Panicker, Surabhi Lakshmi, Nedumudi Venu and Kailash as part of the cast.
Lijo Jose Pellissery will be the fifth director as part of the Netflix anthology. His segment will feature Mammootty in the lead. It will also mark the first collaboration between Lijo and Mammootty.
