Mohanlal and Vijay Deverakonda could be uniting in the mother of all team-ups in an upcoming period action-drama titled Vrushabha, according to sources. The big budget multi-starrer was announced earlier this year and the makers had revealed that the film is a father-son drama with Mohanlal essaying the role of the patriarch.

While during the announcement, the team had revealed that they are in talks with a Telugu star to play the son in the movie, sources tell OTTplay that Liger and Arjun Reddy actor Vijay Deverakonda is one of the names that the makers are keen to rope in to play the role.

Mohanlal had said in an interview earlier this year that Vrushabha, which will be helmed by Nanda Kishore and shot in Malayalam and Telugu, will be a visual treat. He said he has been getting a lot of offers from Bollywood and Telugu for a pan-Indian film and this movie, which is replete with battle sequences and has a story that spans several generations, fit the bill.

As per the plan, the movie will go on floors only in late 2023 after Mohanlal has completed his ambitious second instalment of Lucifer titled Empuraan. Vrushabha is expected to hit theatres only in 2024. Mohanlal had previously teamed up with Tamil superstar Vijay for Jilla and Telugu star NTR Jr for Janatha Garage. The veteran Malayalam superstar isn’t shy about playing a supporting character or second fiddle to younger actors in other industries. A combination of Mohanlal and Vijay Deverakonda, who also enjoys a massive fanbase in Kerala, is sure to leave the fans excited for the “high-octane” film, which is produced by Dubai-based AVS Studios.

Mohanlal, meanwhile, is currently shooting for an action thriller titled Ram, which is helmed by Jeethu Joseph and will be released in two instalments. The movie’s main locations are Indian, the United Kingdom, Tunisia, Morocco and Israel. Trisha Krishnan, Adil Hussain, Indrajith Sukumaran and Durga Krishna are also part of the cast of the film. He will join Lijo Jose Pellissery's movie in which he reportedly plays a wrestler, before moving to Empuraan and Vivek's #L353.
