One way to gauge the hype for Mohanlal’s upcoming theatrical release Aaraattu would be checking the most anticipated new Indian movies list on IMDB. The movie has topped the list, pushing Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiawadi and RRR in second and third places this week in terms of the page views.

Aaraattu, which is a ‘mass’ entertainer set for February 18 release, has accounted for 85.3% of top 10 page views as on February 16, while Gangubai Kathiawadi’s interest dwindled to 4.7% and RRR’s to 1.7%. Incidentally, the interest for Mammootty’s upcoming release Bheeshma Parvam too has surged, making it the fifth in the list after Yami Gautham’s Disney+ Hotstar thriller A Thursday.

Mohanlal fans have already got the ball rolling in terms of record booking in fan shows. The movie had crossed 200 fan shows in the beginning of the week, making it the third Mohanlal movie in three years to achieve the feat after Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham and Lucifer.

The upcoming movie, which is made on a budget exceeding Rs 30 Cr, is directed by B Unnikrishnan and scripted by Pulimurugan fame Udaykrishna. The film revolves around Mohanlal’s character Neyyattinkara Gopan, who comes to a village to make a deal for its residents. There, he creates more problems than he encounters, and after the deal falls through, the villagers find themselves in a position where they have to be accountable for the ruckus he creates.

Its director Unnikrishnan had earlier told us that the movie is an all-out fun, action entertainer that would be a treat for the fans. “It’s a film that the audience can enjoy in theatres,” he said.
