A little over 12 years since Malayalam filmmaker Jeethu Joseph introduced audiences to the family of Georgekutty (Mohanlal) and his efforts to ensure their involvement in the disappearance and death of a youngster called Varun Prabhakar remains concealed in Drishyam, the third and final chapter of the story is set to be released. In late 2025, Jeethu and the team of Drishyam had reconvened to shoot the third instalment, which was wrapped up in December.
Drishyam 3 in theatres for Easter 2026?
At the time, a summer of 2026 release time frame was mooted, but now, Jeethu has clarified that it will be in theatres earlier than expected. At a public event in Kerala, Jeethu took the stage to answer the query that everyone in the gathered crowd had – when will Drishyam 3 release? “Drishyam is a film that comes with the baggage of having touched and influenced a large segment of audiences,” said the filmmaker, urging viewers to lower their expectations and watch the latest film in the franchise when it releases in theatres in “the first week of April”.
The official announcement of the release date will happen shortly, he added, thanking everyone for the support he’s received to date. Going by this update, Drishyam 3 will either be an Easter release or a Vishu outing, at the latest. Meanwhile, the Hindi version of the film, which stars Ajay Devgn in the lead, is also in the making. Initial reports suggested that the Hindi version would also be based on Jeehu’s script, as was the case with the first two instalments, with only basic changes to suit Hindi audience sensibilities, it is now being reported that Ajay’s Drishyam 3 will have a brand new story and will hit theatres on October 2, 2026.
According to Jeethu, Drishyam 3 will focus on Georgekutty’s emotional dilemma to follow a character-driven narrative, rather than suspense. After years of denying their involvement in Varun’s death, George had given the youngster’s parents closure of sorts by sending them his ashes for the last rites. Will Drishyam 3 be more about Georgekutty’s struggle with guilt or will true punishment be meted out to him. We will know in only 3 months from now.
