Singer Zahrah S Khan is all set to make her acting debut in the much-awaited Mohanlal-starrer multilingual period movie, Vrushabha. In what’s touted as a ‘high-octane father-son drama’, Zahrah will be playing a warrior princess. The upcoming film is directed by Kannada filmmaker Nanda Kishore, who has earlier helmed projects like Tiger, Brihaspathi and more recently Pogaru.
The narrative will focus on two eras, and Zahrah is likely to play a version of Shanaya Kapoor, representing her past. Interestingly, Sanjay Kapoor’s daughter Shanaya is also making her south debut with this Mohanlal-starrer. According to the makers, the film will have thrilling action scenes, for which Zahrah is undergoing rigorous training sessions.
The singer is best known for her tracks like The Punjabban from JuggJugg Jeeyo and Kusu Kusu from Satyameva Jayate 2. Meanwhile, Oops with King, Main Tenu Chadh Jaungi, Tere Saath Ho were some of the music videos in which she featured.
On the other hand, Shanaya - who was expected to make her Bollywood debut with Karan Johar’s Bedhadak - will be seen in a pivotal role in Vrushabha. As one of the lead actors in Bedhadak, Lakshya Lalwani, joined Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan’s debut web show, Stardom, the film is said to be put on hold for now. Shanaya is also supposed to do a film with Tiger Shroff, titled Screw Dheela, which is yet to take shape. Earlier, she has worked as an assistant director in the Janhvi Kapoor-starrer Gunjan Saxena:The Kargil Girl.
Vrushabha is said to be an action-oriented film, dealing with the relationship between a father and his son, while parts of it may also remind the audience of SS Rajamouli’s Telugu superhit Magadheera. Along with Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms, AVS Studios and Connect Media have joined forces to produce this pan-India movie. It will be released in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi.
Mohanlal’s Jailer is also releasing this year. Meanwhile, another upcoming film with Lijo Jose Pellissery, Malaikottai Vaaliban, has entered the post-production stage, after a 130-day shooting schedule was completed recently.
