Mohanlal’s Vrusshabha on course for Christmas release; first song out on THIS date

Malayalam superstar Mohanlal’s upcoming film Vrusshabha is a tale of reincarnation, wherein deadly foes of the past are reborn as father and son, a relationship that is tested by karma and vengeance. Directed by Kannada filmmaker Nandakishore, the film was announced as a Malayalam-Telugu bilingual, but will likely have a 5-language pan-India release. Vrusshabha was meant to be in theatres in October, and was then pushed ahead to November and then December 25. The team is yet to begin promotions, which had sparked speculation that yet another postponement is nigh.

Appa - the heartbeat of Vrusshabha on December 12

However, on December 11, the team announced the arrival of the first song from the film, with a poster that reaffirmed the December 25 theatrical release plans. Vrusshabha promotions kick off with a video song called Appa, featuring Mohanlal and Samarjit Lankesh, who plays his son in the film. The announcement was that the song would drop on December 12, but no time was specified, which has been a standard feature of all Vrusshabha related content.

According to the official synopsis, Vrusshabha follows a wealthy diamond magnate, who faces a reckoning when his son's journey to their ancestral village awakens memories of a violent past that refuse to stay buried. The film’s cast also includes Nayan Sarika, Ragini Dwivedi, Ajay, Ali, Neha Saxena, Vinay Varma and Garuda Ram, among others.

Vrusshabha releases in theatres in a busy holiday. In Malayalam, it will clash with Nivin Pauly’s Sarvam Mayam and Unni Mukundan’s Mindiyum Paranjum, while Dileep’s Bha Bha Bha, from the week before, is also expected to hold on to a sizeable number of screens. Considering that several cast members are from the Kannada film industry, the film will release in the state, where Kiccha Sudeep’s Mark and the multi-starrer 45, with Shivarajkumar, Raj B Shetty and Upendra, come out on Christmas. Both these films are pan-India releases.
