The team of Vrusshabha took the decision to push the release date ahead as the film is VFX heavy and that’s not something they want to rush and get shoddy output, says a source.

Kannada filmmaker Nanda Kishore’s first straight Malayalam-Telugu directorial, the Mohanlal led Vrusshabha will not be in theatres on November 6. After the team failed to deliver an update on October 25, there were rumours that the film is being postponed, which a team member has now confirmed. Speaking to OTTplay on condition of anonymity, the source says that Nanda Kishore is hard at work to get the VFX done well. “He does not want to rush the team and end up with below par visuals,” says the source.

The buzz on social media is that the film is likely to be a 2026 release now, but the source says that the team is still actively working on ensuring that it remains a 2025 theatrical outing. But isn’t December jam-packed with big-ticket releases across languages? “Mohanlal has a cameo in BhaBhaBha, which releases on December 18, so, Vrusshabha will either be before that or after, although the latter looks more likely. An official announcement can be expected shortly,” adds the source.
Vrusshabha, meanwhile, also stars Ragini Dwivedi, Samarjit Lankesh, Garuda Ram, Nayan Sarika, Ajay Ravuri and Ali, among others. The film was initially announced with Mohanlal and Roshan Meka as father-son duo and Shanaya Kapoor set to make her south debut. However, after the first schedule, the cast was reshuffled and Roshan and Shanaya were no longer a part of the film, with one-film old Samarjit stepping in. Samarjit is the son of Kannada filmmaker Indrajit Lankesh.
The film, meanwhile revolves around a simple subject – enemies of the past are reborn as father and son. Will their revenge hold strong or will love trump all? Shot as a Malayalam-Telugu bilingual, Vrusshabha will be released in Kannada, Tamil and Hindi as well.
