Mohiniyattam release date: Saiju Kurup's dark comedy to hit the big screen for Vishu 2026

The upcoming Malayalam film Mohiniyattam, which is a sequel to the 2024 comedy Bharathanatyam, recently concluded its production. The makers have finally announced a date for the film's theatrical premiere after releasing a poster introducing the major characters.

When is Mohiniyattam release date?

On April 10, 2026, the movie—which is Saiju Kurup's 150th film—will be released. Therefore, during the Vishnu holiday season, Mohiniyattam would be an excellent film to see in theatres. Although there are currently no other movies scheduled on the same day, some of the most anticipated movies, like Mohanlal's Drishyam 3, will debut during the first week of April. By the end of the same month, Mohanlal-Mammootty's Patriot will also be released in theatres.

A new poster featuring the other key characters from Mohiniyattam has come out along with the movie's release date. The poster features the new cast members of this movie series, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Vinay Forrt, Baby Jean, and Jagadish. Between them, Saiju Kurup stands looking terrified. A teaser that offers further details about the movie's narrative is expected in the coming days.

What was shown in Mohiniyattam first poster?

A fan with a rope attached for someone to hang is seen in the background of the first poster, which shows the major characters from the first instalment looking scared. Unlike Bharathanatyam, this film appears to blend aspects of humor and suspense. On social media, Mammootty, Unni Mukundan, and Dileep shared this poster. 

The producers verified on social media that the sequel's filming had completed in January 2026. The filming began in November 2025. The screenplay was also written by Krishnadas Murali, the film's director. It was already confirmed that Abhiram Radhakrishnan, Kalaranjini, Swathi Das Prabhu, Sruthy Suresh, and Saiju Kurup would return for the follow-up. Because Bharathanatyam was so well welcomed, especially following its OTT debut, a follow-up, Mohiniyattam, was unveiled in May last year. Bharathanatyam is streaming on Amazon Prime Video and Manorama Max.
