Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 1 ends on January 12, when the final episode, Beyond Logic, drops on Apple TV+. The twist ending of the penultimate episode Axis Mundi, where it was revealed that Dr Keiko Miura (Mari Yamamoto) is still alive and, perhaps, not much older than her granddaughter Cate (Anna Sawai), had fans hoping for a Keiko and Lee Shaw (Kurt Russell) reunion. Lee and May (Kiersey Clemons), are also in Hollow Earth and actively looking for Cate, even calling out to her in Titan land.

Ahead of the final episode, which drops at midnight, the makers released a sneak peek, which, although a spoiler, is exactly what audiences wanted – Shaw and Keiko together. Called Buckle Up, the 1 minute footage that Apple TV+ has released has Shaw, Keiko, Cate and May together in what appears to be the pod from Project Hourglass, in which the former went into Hollow Earth all those years ago. They are now looking for the right moment to hitch their way back into their world, when a Titan breaches the portal and it seems that the Ion Dragon will help them get to that goal.

Although the show is called Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, the Titan sightings have been few and lasting only a seconds in some of the 10 episodes. Godzilla, of course, remains the star attraction, with the makers introducing newer Titans like Brambleboar, Endoswarm, Ion Dragon and Frost Vark. Instead, they have focused on the human drama and the establishment of Monarch in the 50s, with Dr Keiko Miura, William Randa (Anders Holm) and Col Leland Shaw, to the grandkids of the founders, Cate and Kentaro (Ren Watabe) stumbling upon the ‘family legacy’.

While Apple TV+ has not officially announced a season 2, the show’s positive reception should pave the way soon enough, especially since the next movie instalment, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is only months away.
