People from a long-divided peninsula appear to be on the verge of reuniting, but there are disquieting repercussions. Money Heist: Korea - Joint Economic Area has an intriguing premise. "Only the rich become richer" under the new economic union, as the series' new teaser shows today. A group of thieves from North and South Korea, commanded by the Professor, enter this merciless new world of inequity to pull off a historic theft.
Money Heist: Korea - Joint Economic Area, a remake of the Spanish series La Casa De Papel, is the first Korean blockbuster of the second half of the year, and it will include director Kim Hong-sun and writer Ryu Yong-unique Jae's take on this iconic narrative.
A Joint Security Area, positioned where today's North and South Korea are divided, features a mint that becomes the focal point of the action in this fresh version. The mint is creating a new unified currency as part of the reunification process to lay the groundwork for a stable joint economy.
Ryu recalls being a great fan of the original Spanish series and how it felt like destiny when he was offered to adapt the original plot. The actor was attracted by the remake's premise since it has new aspects such as tension, mistrust, and harmony between North and South Korea, in addition to the battle between criminals and police. A Korean lens is added to the original IP when thieves from North and South Korea join forces, and authorities from North and South Korea join hands to stop them.
Kim continued, saying that he loved the original story. It has a large cast of characters, each of whom is intriguing in their own right. He thought the characters would be interesting no matter where they were set.
The teaser art that was previously revealed piques fans' interest in these reimagined characters. Fans got a first look at the striking traditional Hahoe masks worn by this band of robbers, in addition to seeing a new squad clad in Money Heist's signature red jumpsuits.
They also had a peek at Yoo Ji-Tae's character "The Professor" (from the iconic Korean movie Old Boy). Park Hae-soo from the smash hit Squid Game and Kim Yoon Jin from the iconic US series Lost are among the cast members of this brilliant strategist attempting to change the world through this theft.
Keo Lee, Netflix Korea's Director of Content, said in a statement that they recognised an opportunity to add a new viewpoint and distinctly Korean lens to this beloved narrative when this creative team came to us with their vision for a Money Heist remake.
He also said that the original Money Heist established how a great narrative can be enjoyed by people from all walks of life, and Korean material has demonstrated the same ability. They are excited to see how the world reacts as we bring this epic story to life with top Korean talent and a rabid worldwide fanbase.
Money Heist: Korea - Joint Economic Area Part 1 will stream exclusively on Netflix on June 24.
