Story:
Various incidents related to white collar crime come to light. While recalling that, take a journey to what things were back in the day and how they are today.
Review:
Money Mafia is a franchise that has gripped many over time. Season 3, as a documentary, is on point this time too. It is not as much at par with the previous seasons yet but looks promising in the first two episodes. The next two could be a game-changer for this one.
The topic this time is extortion and gold smuggling in Mumbai. Sunil Singh, who was the victim of extortion, recalls the horrific incident and the accused's past.
Crime journalists simplify how the extortions take place and with that, the viewers are taken back to the 80s and 90s Mumbai where extortion was as common as blinking. Thanks to that, Arun Gawli's name is dragged in too and so is Gulshan Kumar's.
The cops from the era and current times share their side of the story too. All that you had only heard of, they speak in this documentary.
It is no surprise that construction is a huge business but the profit-loss margin that this season reveals is what will definitely hit the people hard. How extortion happens even while sitting in your homes, will surely open your eyes wide enough.
Ever heard about brokered peace? This show tells you exactly what that is and how it is relevant and very much existent in today's times.
For a documentary, the research and visuals for this one is on point. Some details, especially about gold smuggling, are sure to leave you questioning where you live.
Since gold smuggling is also touched upon, it's impossible to not mention Haji Mastan. Gold has been smuggled since 60s and ways in which it is smuggled, is something the normal human brain cannot even process well.
The 1993 bomb blasts, which have scarred Mumbai till date, also make it to the series. However, since the topic is rather gold smuggling, the blasts aren't a topic that has been explored in depth.
Gold and drug smuggling during COVID-19 is also explored. The surprising turn of events is that according to sources in the series, the gold and drugs smuggled actually increased drastically.
Two episodes from the show have released and more is to come soon. Seeing the story so far, expect something mind-blowing.
Verdict:
Money Mafia manages to blow your mind from time-to-time. It is well-researched and there are living examples who speak the unheard. For those who love knowing more about white-collar crime in the form of documentaries, this is a must-watch.
