There’s good news galore for die hard fans of the Monsterverse. The latest instalment Godzilla x Kong The New Empire has just broken into the Rs 100 crore club in India, while the spin off Apple TV+ series, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters has been given the green signal for a second season.

Godzilla x Kong the New Empire, which released on March 29 in time for the Easter holiday, opened to fairly positive reviews. Despite not having the greatest of plots, the Adam Wingard directorial delivered an action-packed Titan fest, much to the delight of fans of the genre, as King Kong and Godzilla fought side-by-side against the Skar King, a tyrannical ape, hell-bent on making his way out of Hollow Earth and taking over the world, aided by the giant ice monster Shimo that he’s been controlling with a special crystal.

Fans called the film an absolute blast as Godzilla swam across the globe juicing up and glowing red, while Kong got a little help from his human pals with a mecha arm for an extra punch. The team-up of these two Titans and the return of Mothra provided several whistle-worthy moments, which should explain how the film has been able to rake in the moolah, despite a steady stream of Hindi and vernacular films releasing in theatres alongside and in the weeks thereafter.

As for Apple TV+’s Monsterverse spin-off, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, despite the show being more about human drama than the Titans, fans were taken in by the production values and visual effects during the fleeting moments the monsters made an appearance. One of the show’s biggest selling points was also the fact that father-son duo Kurt and Wyatt Russell played the same character across different time periods.

The streaming platform has now announced that the show will be back for a second season. In the first season, the focus was on the three generations of the Randa family and their connection to the mysterious organisation, Monarch. According to a statement from the platform, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters will have further spin-offs, details of which will be announced in due course of time.
