In her latest project Halle Berry takes on the role of an astronaut tasked with saving mankind. The latest trailer for Moonfall, which was released recently, shows the unique catastrophe Earth has to grapple with, and the heroes who arise to help.

The trailer was released on the official Youtube channel of Lionsgate Movies. It opens with a man announcing an emergency meeting taking place to discuss something of utmost importance, quite literally a matter of life and death. As the clip progresses we see just what it is- the moon mysteriously becomes out of orbit, its changed trajectory bringing the potential of major disasters that could wipe out large parts of the Earth. As a team of scientists probe further, they make some alarming discoveries as to what is behind the developments.With an incompetent government and scared public, a group of hero astronauts decide to go to the source of the problem, becoming the last hope of the doomed planet.

Along with Berry, Moonfall also features Patrick Wilson, John Bradley, Michael Peña, Donald Sutherland, and Charlie Plummer.

The upcoming science fiction film is written and directed by Roland Emmerich, known for his popular sci-fi and disaster movies such as Independence Day (1996), Godzilla (1998), The Day After Tomorrow (2004) and 2012 (2009). In addition to Emmerich, Harald Kloser and Spenser Cohen also serve as writers on the film.

Moonfall is scheduled for a theatrical release on February 4.

Meanwhile Berry’s next project, the Netflix drama The Mothership, also falls under the science fiction genre. The actress also recently made her directorial debut with the film Bruised.
