Sidhu Moosewala, who made his debut in acting with Moosa Jatt, was shot dead in a village in Punjab. The Punjabi singer was in Mansa village where he was attacked. He was rushed to the hospital after being shot. The singer was reportedly injured but succumbed to injuries by the time he reached the hospital.
Three others were also left injured in the shooting. They are hospitalized.
Sidhu, who had recently become the Congress leader in Punjab, was shot in Mansa village by unknown assailants on Sunday, May 29. The incident took place a day after Punjab withdrew the security of 424 people. Sidhu was also among one of them.
The renowned singer-actor had joined the Congress party in 2021. Sidhu was running for elections from the Mansa constituency on December 3, 2021. A case was registered against him under section 188 for holding door-to-door campaign and violating the code of conduct during elections.
The singer got in trouble with the law on May 2020, when a video of him supposedly training five police officers to use AK-47s went viral. He reportedly taught another officer how to use a pistol. All six officers were suspended soon after and Sidhu was booked under two sections of the arms act.
Sidhu had released a single titled Panjab: My Motherland, which promoted Khalistani movement. He had been under scrutiny for the song too.
On April 2022, Aam Aadmi Party minister Laljit Singh Bhullar had reacted to Sidhu’s song Scapegoat (which was hinted towards the elections and AAP’s win). Laljit had stated that he would reopen the case showing Sidhu in possession of AK-47.
Sidhu Moosewala had appeared in two hit films titled Moosa Jatt (his debut film) and Yes I Am Student in the same year. Sidhu was also going to be seen in Amberdeep Singh’s Jattan Da Munda Gaun Lagya, which was slated to release in 2022. The movie might end up being his last film ever.
