After a long wait, Sony Pictures has released a new scene, character poster, and still from the upcoming superhero film Morbius, starring Oscar winner Jared Leto. Columbia Pictures produced the film, which is based on the Marvel Comics character Morbius, the Living Vampire.
In the just-released video, Dr Michael Morbius (Leto) is undergoing an experimental treatment for a rare blood ailment when things start to spiral out of hand. Morbius has been directed by Daniel Espinosa and written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless.
The superhero film is based on the popular Marvel Comics character, and it follows a biochemist who transforms into a vampire after curing himself of a rare blood illness.
In the comics, Dr Michael Morbius, a Nobel Prize-winning researcher, discovers a solution to his uncommon blood ailment that turns into a curse! He transforms into Morbius, a pseudo-vampire with superhuman powers and uncontrollable bloodlust while undergoing an experimental treatment. Like a true vampire, Morbius requires blood to survive. His intellect returns to normal after swallowing his victim's blood, but he is plagued with shame, remorse, and self-loathing.
What are the side effects? Heightened senses, a phobia of light, and an insatiable thirst for blood. He cannot be killed by mystical objects, however, because he is more scientific than supernatural.
Leto also shared a deadly poster of Morbius and captioned it, "In the shadow of every hero, lies a villain. #Morbidius-exclusively in movie theaters January 28. #CCXPWorlds."
He shared the teaser video by stating, "Is he here to save the world or destroy it? Watch Dr. Michael Morbius and his sinister alter-ego in this exclusive scene."
Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal, and Tyrese Gibson co-star alongside Jared in the film. Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, and Lucas Foster produce Morbius, with Louise Rosner and Emma Ludbrook serving as executive producers.
On January 28, 2022, the film will be released in theatres.
