The makers have been trying to build a new live-action franchise of the popular video game. The upcoming martial arts fantasy drama is the sequel to the 2021 movie which served as the reboot of the Mortal Kombat film franchise, first released in 1995. The interesting part is The Boys-fame Karl Urban has joined for the lead role in the sequel.
The martial arts fantasy drama is now set to release in cinemas on May 15, 2026. The previous Mortal Kombat movie, which was released during the pandemic, had collected $84.4 million worldwide at the box office in 2021. The fantasy drama was made on a budget of $55 million.

The 2-minute-31-second trailer shows that Karl Urban has been recruited for the tournament, teasing the impending invasion of Earthrealm by the powerful Outworld overload Shao Kahn. The video also features glimpses of epic, violent battles, returning characters, and new combatants. The trailer was unveiled as a red-band video as it showcases brutal violence and bloody sequences that have been the hallmark of the Mortal Kombat franchise.
