In R.S. Prasanna's touching sports comedy-drama Sitaare Zameen Par, Aamir Khan plays the role of Gulshan Arora, an egotistical and brazen basketball coach whose life takes a surprising twist. He is forced to train a squad of ten neurodivergent players—people with intellectual disabilities like Down syndrome and autism—for a national tournament after serving a community service sentence for a drunk driving incident and a suspension for aggressive behaviour. Gulshan goes through a dramatic change from being cold and uncaring at the beginning to becoming an empathetic teammate after realising that his passionate teammates can teach him more about perseverance and happiness than he can teach them about sports. The film, which is both an official adaptation of the Spanish film Champions and a spiritual sequel to 2007's Taare Zameen Par, uses a mix of humour and emotion to question how people should define "normalcy" and honour the unique genius of each individual.
The spiritual sequel to the 2022 film, Vadh 2, is a brutal, performance-driven crime thriller that reunites Sanjay Mishra and Neena Gupta in a new, standalone story set in the stifling confines of a Madhya Pradesh prison. Inmates Shambhunath Mishra (Mishra) and Manju (Gupta) form a close friendship as the former approaches the conclusion of her 28-year prison term for a double murder that Manju denies committing. An aggressive and politically connected criminal named Keshav arrives and disrupts their routine. He takes control of the prison hierarchy and starts preying on a young inmate named Naina (Yogita Bihani), who is defenceless. The investigation spearheaded by the astute Officer Ateet Singh (Amitt K. Singh) covers a complex web of systemic corruption, moral ambiguity, and long-buried secrets after Keshav's enigmatic disappearance following a confrontation with the new jail superintendent, Prakash Singh (Kumud Mishra), who is both rigid and caste-conscious. The film confronts the characters' consciences and the judicial system's shortcomings as it probes the hazy boundaries between justice and retribution, unveiling a planned act of "vadh" (justified execution).
In Shashank Bali's boisterous comedy-drama Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain! Fun on the Run, the favourite characters from Modern Colony go on a wild road trip adventure. The story involves Vibhuti Narayan Mishra and Manmohan Tiwari, two ambitious neighbours played by Aasif Sheikh and Rohitashv Gour, respectively. On their way to Uttarakhand, they are interrupted in their never-ending pursuit of each other's spouses, Anita (Vidisha Srivastava) and Angoori (Shubhangi Atre), by a perilous encounter. Along their journey, the party encounters two eccentric criminal brothers, Shanti (Ravi Kishan) and Kranti (Mukesh Tiwari), who develop an immediate crush on the "Bhabijis" and devise a scheme to "dispose" of the spouses. A frenzy of ridiculous disguises, clumsy pursuits, and a surreal climax that puts the neighbours' resilience to the test against organised—yet equally inept—crime is infused throughout the film with the show's trademark catchphrases and slapstick humour.
In Season 2 of Maamla Legal Hai, the quirky Patparganj District Court is back, and things take a dramatic turn when "jugaadu" lawyer V.D. Tyagi (Ravi Kishan) becomes a hopeful judge. The lovable squad, including the dogged Sujata Didi (Nidhi Bisht), the idealistic Ananya Shroff (Naila Grewal), and the clever Vishwas Pandey (Anant Joshi), keeps fighting bizarre legal battles "based on true events" and pursuing their ambitions as Tyagi deals with the intricacies of passing justice from the bench. In this season's new anarchy, Kusha Kapila and Dinesh Lal Yadav, who have joined the cast, take on wild cases featuring obscene parrots and rodents that devour marijuana. The Rahul Pandey-directed series deftly mixes sarcasm and poignant moments as it investigates if Tyagi can preserve the court's dignity while retaining his distinctive style.
Bejoy Nambiar's Tu Yaa Main is a suspenseful romantic survival thriller that explores the dangerous confluence of internet stardom and basic human dread. Avani "Miss Vanity" Shah (Shanaya Kapoor), an affluent influencer from South Mumbai, and Maruti "Aala Flowpara" Kadam (Adarsh Gourav), a rough underground rapper from Nallasopara, have an unexpected romance in the movie. On a trip to Goa to deal with an unexpected pregnancy, their "class-crossed" relationship and professional collaboration take a terrifying turn. As the monsoon begins, a string of misfortunes leads the couple to a deserted hotel with a swimming pool that is twenty feet deep and empty. The pair must go from carefully crafted online identities to their most primal survival instincts as they face their fears and the savage crocodile that has invaded their enclosure. The film, which is a formal remake of the 2018 Thai film The Pool, is a brutal test of faith and sacrifice that asks whether their bond can survive the "merciless arithmetic" of a life-or-death crisis and is also a claustrophobic creature feature.
Based on a chapter from Hussain Zaidi's Mafia Queens of Mumbai, O'Romeo is a romantic action thriller film by Vishal Bhardwaj set in the 1990s. Arjun Ustara, played by Shahid Kapoor, is a notorious hitman in the Mumbai underworld. He is subservient to the cynical Ismail Khan, played by Nana Patekar, an intelligence officer. Ustara is recognised for his distinctive barber's razor. Meeting Afshan (Triptii Dimri), a distraught widow who is hell-bent on killing the powerful gangster-turned-terrorist Jalal (Avinash Tiwary) to exact revenge for the murder of her husband (Vikrant Massey), throws a wrench into his life of icy calculation. Ustara goes from being a hired gun to a loyal "Romeo" as he and Afshan embark on a blood-soaked journey of vengeance across Mumbai and Spain. Ustara is at first hesitant, but he eventually falls head over heels for Afshan's ferocious conviction and decides to help her suicidal quest. The melancholy reflection on the nexus of passionate love and institutional crime blends Bhardwaj's typical literary flair with physical brutality and haunting music.
The horrific fact that almost 80 cases of sexual assault are reported every day in India is the inspiration for the title of Assi, a scorching investigative courtroom drama directed by Anubhav Sinha. In this drama, five guys brutally gang rape a Malayali schoolteacher named Parima (Kani Kusruti) and then leave her for dead on a railway track near a metro station in Delhi. In addition to overcoming the physical harm, she and her loving husband, Vinay (Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub), face the challenges of a society that is quick to blame victims and a corrupt criminal justice system. At the forefront of the legal struggle is Raavi, an idealistic and ferocious lawyer played by Taapsee Pannu. In a trial that questions sexism and institutional culpability, Raavi faces a merciless defence attorney and a mound of altered evidence. Interwoven with a parallel plot about an enigmatic vigilante called "Umbrella Man", the film goes beyond its procedural origins to test the audience's moral fibre and clinical indifference to statistics.
Ravi Udyawar and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Do Deewane Seher Mein is an intimate romance drama set in Mumbai that illuminates the frailties of two millennials dealing with social awkwardness and the city's intense lifestyle. The plot revolves around two characters: Shashank Sharma, played by Siddhant Chaturvedi, is a brilliant marketing executive whose self-esteem is severely limited due to a speech impediment he had as a child, and Roshni Srivastava, played by Mrunal Thakur, is a fashion content creator whose severe self-consciousness is concealed by her severe spectacles and icy demeanour. Despite their initial resistance to the typical arranged marriage structure, the couple eventually finds comfort in each other's "imperfections", making their partnership a moving voyage of self-acceptance and healing for both of them. The timeless song Gharaonda from 1977 inspires the title and essence of the film. It's a reflection on modern-day loneliness and the need to conform in a society that values artificial beauty.
Rajkummar Rao and Patralekhaa produced Toaster, a quirky dark comedy-thriller that was directed by Vivek Das Chaudhary. A pathologically frugal guy named Ramakant (Rajkummar Rao) and his wife, played by Sanya Malhotra, give a married couple a toaster at ₹5,000 as a wedding present. But when the marriage falls apart and things start to go downhill, Ramakant gets excessively fixated on getting his hands on his pricey wedding present instead of being there emotionally. Archana Puran Singh, Abhishek Banerjee, and Farah Khan are just a few of the quirky people entangled in his perilous and bizarre quest for the kitchen gadget, which leads to a web of unintentional murder and increasing mayhem. The film deftly mixes comedy with thrilling plot twists to examine the worst of human stupidity and the mayhem that ensues when an insignificant fixation is unleashed to deadly proportions.
