After marking yet another remarkable year with commercial and notable films such as Lokah and Feminichi Fathima, Malayalam cinema is set to ring in the New Year in the digital space with intriguing movies. Sandeep Pradeep-starrer Eko, Mammootty's serial killer movie Kalamkaval and Prithviraj Sukumaran-led Vilaayath Budha are the front-runners set to make their OTT releases in January 2026. Malayalam OTT releases in January 2026

Eko - TBA

After his hit Kishkindha Kaandam, director Dinjith Ayyathan followed up with another moody mystery thriller Eko, which once again hooked the audiences with its gripping narrative. Writer-DOP Bahul Ramesh put a pack of dogs at the centre of the narrative which revo lves around a fugitive dog-breeder, his wife on a lonely hilltop and a youth caregiver. Sandeep Pradeep plays the young Peeyoos in this movie, which is a must-watch for cinephiles. Also featuring Saurabh Sachdeva, Vineeth, Biana Momin, Narain, and Binu Pappu, the film is rumoured to be headed to Netflix, but neither the makers nor the streaming giant has confirmed this.

Vilaayath Budha - TBA

Malayalam actor-filmmaker Prithviraj Sukumaran leads this action-packed film as Double Mohanan who locks horns with Bhaskaran Master over a priced sandalwood tree. Based on GR Indugopan’s novel, the film was originally a project envisioned by the late director Sachy that was then taken over by Jayan Nambiar, marking his directorial debut. Senior actor Shammi Thilakan plays the other lead role of Bhaskaran Master, along with Priyamvada Krishnan.

Kalamkaval

Legendary Malayalam actor Mammootty made a triumphant return to the big screen with the movie Kalamkaval after being away for medical reasons. He was seen as a serial killer, Stanley Das, who targeted divorced or older single women. Actor Vinayakan was seen in the lead role of a cop in the film, directed by Jithin K Jose. Kalamkaval received much praise for its gripping plot and Mammootty’s choice of a dark avatar, and has been performing well at the box office. Kalamkaval is expected to land on SonyLiv via OTTplay Premium next month after completing its theatrical run.

Balti 

Platform: Prime Video

Balti is actor Shane Nigam’s latest film, which focuses on four Kabaddi players and what happens when they get entangled with some powerful criminals in their village. Actress Preethi Asrani plays the female lead opposite Shane in this film, which also features Selvaraghavan, filmmaker-actor Alphonse Puthren, and Poornima Indrajith, among others. Prime Video has confirmed that Balti will be finally making its OTT release on the platform. OTTplay Premium subscribers can also watch the film with a top-up.

Dheeram - TBA

Dheeram is a 2025 Malayalam film, which released in theatres along with Mammootty’s Kalamkaval on December 5. Actor Indrajith Sukumaran once again donned a khaki for the film, which delves into a string of murders in Kerala’s Kozhikode district. Jithin Suresh T has directed the film, which also features senior actor JohnVijayaraghavan and noted actress Divya Pillai.
