Malayalam cinema continues to churn out impressive films in 2025, including Asif Ali’s Rekhachithram and Basil Joseph’s Ponman. After wooing audiences in the theatres, these films are much-awaited in the OTT space. A slew of Malayalam films is slated to release on OTT in March 2025. From Asif Ali’s Rekhachithram and Kunchacko Boban-starrer's Officer on Duty to Basil Joseph’s Ponman and Mammootty’s Dominic and The Ladies Purse, here are the most-awaited Malayalam movies that are likely to release on OTT in March 2025.
Where to watch – SonyLiv
OTT release date – March 7, 2025
After the remarkable success of Kishkindha Kaandam, Asif Ali was back with Rekhachithram, which impressed both critics and audiences. Jofin T Chacko’s film also stars Anaswara Rajan in a key role. The mystery thriller follows a cop who seeks to what happened to an aspiring actress after she goes missing from a film set during the 1980s. The first Rs 50-crore Malayalam film of the year is definitely the most-awaited movie on OTT as well.

OTT release date: March 20, 2025 (tentative)
Kunchacko Boban once again donned the cop uniform for Officer on Duty, which also stars Priya Mani, Jagadish and Vishak Nair in key roles. The film just released in theatres on February 20, 2025, to mostly positive reviews. OTTplay has already reported that Netflix has bagged the streaming rights of Officer on Duty, with a tentative release date of March 20, 2025.
Dominic and The Ladies’ Purse was Mammootty’s first release of the year. The film also grabbed headlines as it marks the Malayalam directorial debut of Gautham Vasudev Menon. The film follows detective Dominic as he tries to find the owner of a purse, but finds himself unravelling something bigger. The Mammootty-starrer opened to mixed responses upon its release in January, and now it remains to be seen if Dominic and The Ladies’ Purse will find appreciation from the OTT audiences.
After the splendid Sookshmadarshini with Nazriya Nazim, Basil Joseph was back with Pravinkoodu Shappu which also starred Soubin Shahir and Chemban Vinod Jose. Basil was seen as a cop who was out to unravel the mystery behind a death at a toddy shop. Sreeraj Sreenivasan’s film did open to positive feedback but was not much of a crowd-puller at the cinemas. But that does not mean the OTT audience would not be kind to Basil Joseph’s murder mystery.
January 2025 saw one more film of Basil Joseph releasing in theatres. Sajin Gopu and Lijomol Jose also play key roles in the film, which narrates a tale of underdogs. The film follows gold dealer PP Ajesh who lends gold for a marriage with a promise that these will be returned. But when the promise is not kept, Ajesh has to stand up for what is his. Ponman found more love than Pravinkoodu Shappu but deserves more appreciation.
Vineeth Sreenivasan plays Jayesh, who is on the lookout for his perfect woman to get married to. The film narrates his ordeal as he meets with numerous prospective brides. Though the film did hit a sore point with some of its dialogues being deemed derogatory, we need to wait and watch how the film will be received in the OTT space.
