Actor Rajesh Madhavan made a cracker of a debut with Pennum Porattum, crafting a social satire which took a close look at human prejudices. Set in the fictional village of Pattada, the film follows the chaos that unfolds after a man makes a romantic request to a woman that quickly becomes the talk of the town. A dog, which is feared to be rabid, is also linked to narrative. Some stellar performances and humorous performances drive this film, which is raw in its treatment at times.

Anomie - TBA

Actress Bhavana plays a forensic expert, Zara, in this thriller film, which follows the events after her brother is found dead. But Zara refuses to buy the police version that it is not a case of suicide, and sets out to find the truth. Senior actor Rahman plays the other key role of the cop in the film, which is technically sound. Though the film opened to mixed reviews, Anomie deserves to be watched.

Valathu Vashathe Kallan - TBA

A Jeethu Joseph film, Valathu Vashathe Kallan pits a corrupt cop against a man seeking justice for his murdered daughter. The cop’s son also becomes crucial to the narrative, adding to the tension. A dark and moody thriller, the film features actor Biju Menon and Joju George in the lead roles. Valathu Vashathe Kallan also opened to mixed reviews but was considered better than Jeethu’s previous film Mirage.

Prakambanam - TBA

A horror comedy which mostly impressed the audience. Three youths leading a carefree life find their lives upended when one of them gets possessed by the spirit of a grandmother following a bizarre mix-up. Young actors Ganapathi, Sagar Surya and Al Ameen play the lead roles, while senior actor Mallika Sukumaran also steals the show as the grandmother. Despite its shortcomings, the film promises a fun watch.

Ashakal Aayiram - TBA

Senior actor Jayaram returns to Malayalam cinema after a hiatus, along with his son and actor Kalidas. Ashakal Aayiram is also a father-son drama, with the youngster harbouring film dreams even as his father struggles with everyday realities. Asha Sharath, Sharaf U Dheen and Ishaani Krishna are also part of the film, which appeals to the family audiences. G Prajith has directed the film.

Aashaan - TBA

Comedian-turned-character actor Indrans leads this comedy-drama film as the titular Aashaan, who aspires to be part of movies. As luck would have it, he comes across aspiring director Anant. Actor Joemon Jyothir plays the other key role in the film, which has many fresh cast. Director Johnpaul George has helmed the film. Megastar Mammootty had turned up for the Aashaan trailer launch, showering praise on the team.
