With 2025 coming to a close, Tamil cinema is gearing up for some interesting films to hit theatres. While the major star films are reserved for Pongal 2026, some notable titles will be releasing in December. Here is a list of films you can watch in theatres in December 2025.

Angammal - December 5
Angammal is a Tamil film which is headlined by actor Geetha Kailasam who has appeared majorly in supporting roles so far. The film is directed by Vipin Radhakrishnan and also stars Saran Shakthi, Thendral Raghunathan and Bharani. The film premiered at MAMI 2024. Angammal is about a young man who has to grapple with his mother's unacceptance to wear a blouse along with her sari while his in-laws make a visit to the village.
Lockdown - December 5
Lockdown is a Tamil film which is set against the backdrop of Covid-19 lockdown that brought the country to standstill. Anupama Parameswaran plays the lead role in Lockdown which also features actors Charlie, Nirosha, Priya Venkat, Livingston, Indhumathi, Rajkumar, Shamji, Lollu Sabha Maran, Vinayak Raj, Vidhu, Abhirami, Ravathi, Sanjivie, Priya Ganesh, Asha and others. The film is directed by AR Jeeva with music scored by NR Raghunanthan and Siddharth Vipin.
Love Insurance Kompany - December 18
Love Insurance Kompany will be hitting theatres this Deember after much delays. It will be the third release this year for Pradeep Ranganthan who will be starring in the lead role, after Dude and Dragon. The film is a romantic drama which is set in the futuristic world where the idea of relationships has become much more complicated and evolved. Vignesh Shivan is directing the film with Anirudh Ravichander as the composer. Actors SJ Suryah, Krithi Shetty, Gouri Kishan and others are also part of the cast.
Retta Thala - December 18
Retta Thala is an action thriller film which will feature Arun Vijay in dual roles. Directed by Kris Thirukumaran who has also written the film, Retta Thala has Siddhi Idnani as the female lead and Sam CS scoring the music. Tanya Ravichandran, Yogi Samy, Hareesh Peradi, John Vijay, and Balaji Murugadoss and others are also part of the cast.
Sirai - December 25
Sirai is an upcoming Tamil film, starring Vikram Prabhu in the lead role. Directed by Suresh Rajakumari, the story of Sirai is written by Tamizh, who previously made the critically acclaimed Taanakkaran with Vikram Prabhu. LK Akshay Kumar, Anishma Anilkumar, and Anantha, among others play prominent roles in this film which is touted to be a gritty police drama.
Genie – TBA
Genie is a fantasy drama which will be fronted by Ravi Mohan. Directed by Arjunan Jr, the film has been in the making for a while, with a tentative release set in December. The film will have Kalyani Priyadarshan, Krithi Shetty, and Wamiqa Gabbi as female leads, and is expected to be an entertainer catering to children.
